Hair
Today it seems like if you want to be an established scientist you should be mostly bald and/or grey. Beard optional male pattern baldness essential.

Don't let it get to you!
The fact there is a history of greying bearded men in the job is as good a reason as any for you to keep going and upset that balance. Drag science back to the sparkly side, or we'll forever be patronised with the 'here comes the science girls' school of advertising.
If it doesn't come naturally, leave it. But if it's what you want to do, don't be persuaded otherwise by being in a minority.
